BFG: Mechanicus Battlecruiser

Another Battlefleet Gothic update, this time with a Mechanicus ship.  I've had this model for a very long time and it's been primed black for years but I've just recently painted it up.  I painted it shortly after I completed the two Imperial cruisers and stuck with drybrushing and washes.

If I remember correctly it's modeled as a Mars Class Battlecruiser, appropriate, I suppose.  I put a bit more detail into this one to make it more characterful.  There's also a bit more contrast between components than with my Navy ships.  The Mechanicus sigil on the sides of these ships is a great touch from GW.  I came up with the name Voidfarer, as I did not want something that really made it sound too much like a warship.  It's actually named after my extrasolar probe I made in Kerbal Space Program to escape the sun.  A true explorator.

More stripe markings on this one.  They just add a nice bit of flair.

I added a cog-wheel pattern around the sigil on the front.

I also tried out some heat scoring on the engines.  I do like how it looks though I am not truly sure whether or not to implement it on my Navy vessels.

BFG: Imperial Navy Reinforcements

So, the first post of the new year.  Happy 2015, even if I am a bit late on that.  As usual it's been far too long since my last post.  Though, I assure you, I have been busy on the hobby front.  I've been painting models from the whole spectrum of my collections.  I spent a good few hours taking photographs and editing them this week to try and pick up the blog slack.  I've got photos for about 11 posts all up and edited on flickr.  So I will probably write a few posts and then set them to auto publish some time in the future.  This will grant the illusion that I am actively updating this blog.  

Now the reason anyone is here, for pictures.  Well one picture.  These are a pair of Imperial Cruisers I painted up several months ago now.  They are both magnetized to be any of the cruiser variants.  For these two ships I tried a new technique in painting these ships.  Instead of picking out different details with different shades I decided to go with a drybrush and wash method.  I am pretty happy with how this worked.  It seems to look better than how I used to paint them.  Some other changes made are the addition of some markings, namely the stripe on the lower fin of one and on the weapons batteries of the other.  I've named these two cruisers Jovian Spear (left) and Infinity (right).

Hope you enjoy the new look of the ships, just trying to keep this game alive for as long as possible.  I still have plenty of these ships to build and paint since I stocked up right at the end, so don't worry about not having any more BFG to see from me.

Back at it.

So, August went by with very little work on the hobby front.  I spent one night working on a warcaster and a talon light 'jack for our Iron Kingdoms RPG game and then put them aside due to a lack of drive.  After that I went ahead and finished my scratch built Neptune Frigate.

This only took a couple of nights to finish up, but it felt good to finish it up.  After that i started work on an orbital drydock for BFG, got it rough built and not much more.  Felt the need to paint something since I had just scratch built the frigate.

So, a couple of days ago I started working on my Hans light Panzer walker for Dust: Warfare.
The first night was spent doing the filters.  The second night I did chipping and some chipping highlights on all but the legs.  Tonight I finished up the chipping and went on to some washes.  I picked out all of the seams and corners and other details with AK Interactive's Wash for DAK vehicles.  This step is what really brings out the lines and actually helps the colors look much more interesting.

Update

I have not posted in some time.

This is due to a couple of reasons, after my last update I spent the rest of September doing almost nothing at all hobby related.  October came along and I started to get back into it, but only slightly.  The gaming group's work schedules got shifted and for a time we were not playing that much.  The last part of October saw me jump back into the Hobby.

I finally, actually ordered and received my casting supplies.  I only need a gram scale and it will be a go to begin casting up my Light Cruiser and the legs for my Rough Riders.  I plan to try to sell the light cruiser to whomever is interested in buying it and scratch building some other Battlefleet Gothic ships and conversions as well.

Last week I was rather ill, but while it was tailing off and I was still away from work I began to work on some Battlefleet Gothic terrain.  I cut out 8 pieces of 3mm plasticard and painted them black.  Four of them I went on to airbrush to be dust clouds and the other four I turned into asteroid fields similar to those I have posted before.

Our group has been playing a lot of BFG lately and last week began a campaign.  I ran out of the charcoal gray craft paint I used on my painted ships some time ago and the stuff I could buy now just does not cover as well as the stuff I got 5 years ago.  So, I mixed up some black and some Vallejo Grey Green to paint my remaining ships.  Tonight I base coated all of the gray and the terra cotta of the prows.  I also added squadron markings to my escorts.  They lead ship has the marking on both side of the prow.  Lastly, I updated my fleet carrier somewhat.  I put it on a large base, added 2 lance turrets to the forward dorsal hard points, added sensors to the prow and underment.  It really looks better than ever before.  Right now I will use it as the Nemesis Fleet Carrier class from one of the old magazine issues.  I feel like it's a bit over-costed, but we shall see.

Now, you may be asking why there are no pictures.  Well, that's because I cannot find my camera.  This makes me sad too.  Hopefully it will be found soon and I can post pictures of all the work I have done and will be doing in the near future.
